Shortly after you start reading this book, you will learn that Pat Meitin has paid his dues to the sport. He has earned every bit of his knowledge about elk hunting. Being an oldtime elk hunter myself, I remember buying Dwight Schuh’s book titled “Bugling for Elk” back in the early 1980’s. At the time, I considered this book the Bible of archery elk hunting. Boy have things changed since then. Meitin does an excellent job of illustrating the transformation of elk behavior, hunting tactics, the sport in general, and even how we as hunters have changed. This well crafted book reaches into every aspect of bowhunting for elk. It has enough how-to information to advance a beginning bowhunter to a seasoned bowhunter — without having to learn everything the hard way. But, the best thing about this book is not what I wrote above. The best thing about it is how very well it is written. I couldn’t just read it like some kind of instructional manual. Rather, I found it more like reading a number-one best-selling novel. The brilliant color photography is like a cherry on top of the cake. If I am right that Dwight’s book was the Bible, then this is the New Testament!…Of elk hunting that is.

Review by James A. Moore for Bowhunting Modern Elk

By far the best book on the subject of bow hunting elk. I’m glad I found something in print that states, and provides evidence, that elk in different places are just that, different. Gearing up and getting into shape address issues most of us would like to avoid in conversation, but need to be addressed.

I would have to agree with the previous reviewers. I am not an avid reader, but I was seeking information on hunting North American elk and this book sure had a lot of what I would consider “Important information”. I would recommend this book to anybody who might be considering their first elk hunt. I appreciate Mr. Meitin for taking the time to write down his thoughts and experiences.
