.243 is the way to go for 12 and up.. good for any mid size varmints to big game (deer) hunting
May 13th, 2010 - 04:52
I think a 223 bold action, is not a bad idea…..
May 13th, 2010 - 05:47
my savage model 12FV chambered in .243 works swell with 55 grain ballistic tips.
May 13th, 2010 - 06:19
hey grun801 i would recomend a .22 .17 or what ever you got will work
May 13th, 2010 - 06:53
Low recoil, .223, .243, and .204 will do the trick with little to no recoil.
May 13th, 2010 - 07:25
Marlin 336 .30-30 or a Newer Marlin in .308 Marlin express, or like TriggerTime mentioned a pre-64 Model 94

DPMS Panther Arms or Armalite. Probally DPMS. They both make the AR-10(.308). They are wonderful rifle makers.

.223, .243, .204 Ruger(need great shot placement or multiple shots), .22-250, .260, and 6mmbr.

Yes, use slugs or buckshot, but switching to a rifle is a great idea.

I like my Ruger 25-06
May 13th, 2010 - 10:54
I love using my 223 AR, Mini 14, and Ruger 25-06. Anything bigger seems overkill. He says something bout 5 round clips…..We dont leave the house with any less than 5- 30 round mags…LOL

Me and My dad hunt Coyotes he uses a 243 winchester. I am looking into buying a little rifle. What would you Sugest for not blowing big holes in the hide so you can sell them.?

Im a big deer hunter and i use a 243.savage with synthetic stock and im not sure of the scope but it gets the job done by being able to hit a half inch circle at 100yds. I think it is a very versatile rifle and some people say that this gun is only for varmit like coyotes, groundhogs etc… But ive shot 6 deer with it and had them put down in 1 shot if it was well placed. My dad had shot a doe at 514 yds with it. this is a great rifle so I would considering trying it out.

Hey Trigger Time,
I shoot a bushmaster varminter in .223. What is the best bullet weight and manufacturer, in your opinion, for me to use to drill coyotes at about 200 yards?
May 13th, 2010 - 14:00
If you want a scoped rifle, I would say that any one of the major Manufactures bolt action rifles would do the job great (Remington, Winchester, and Savage are a few affordable choices). These are avail in lightweight models for this purpose. For a non scoped rifle, just leave the scope of any of the above rifles and run with that. Also, There’s nothing wrong with the good old Model 94 Winchester either, .30-.30 Cal.
Hope this helps.

We have never used 22LR to hunt coyotes. The majority of shots that are taken are around the 100 yard range, and in our opinion, 22LR just does not have the energy to take them down clean everytime. I Know of some people who use 22 MAG and have had decent results. But we prefer centerfire cartridges.

what’s the best rifle to use thats accurate but not in the “AR” family. We need our gun to fit in a scabberd but still be able to be very accurate. Also we chase them with dogs so we move alot. Light would be nice

Where did you buy that rifle at mate? And who makes it?
May 13th, 2010 - 16:20
i use a romanian wasr-10 with irons, works fine for me
May 13th, 2010 - 16:37
I’ve got a 220 swift this gun is overlooked by many saying the barrel will burn up. My gun has over 1000 rounds through it and i can still hit a horse fly at 100 yds. I have a weaver 3-9 scope trustworthy and with the ruger m-77 220 swift and a 55 grain bullet at 3900 fps its great for p-dogs, yotes, cats and just about anything else you can think of.
