Rating:
Very entertaining film! A bit about it: for decades the San Francisco Bay Area has been a hub for the recycling movement. Even the garbage companies have a long history of recycling practices. After the first Earth Day celebration in 1970, community, non-profit recycling centers appeared in schools, garages, and neighborhood centers-with the goal of bringing recycling to their cities. Now in 2006, only two non-profit recycling organizations remain in San Francisco .
Despite the lack of surviving community recycling centers, the Bay Area is still home to a unique community of recyclers who push the envelope of possibilities.
This DVD features interviews with recycling pioneers and is an entertaining examination of a fading subculture. After seeing it, we went to Building Resources in San Francisco and kitted out our whole Green Festival booth for $60 (for 14 shuttered closet doors… they made nice “walls’ that we could hang our products off of.

I love this movie! You know a good documentary when it’s not only informative, it’s entertaining.
This is a must-see for anyone interested in sustainability, the green movement, or recycling; it provides great background info and inspiration for the next generation of environmental crusaders. Plus, The Recyclergy totally captures the spirit and personalities of some off-beat and oft-overlooked San Francisco characters (read: true entertainment), and would be appealing to any Bay Area culture buff.
For the record, my boyfriend loved it, too, and he generally doesn’t like watching movies.
Hope a sequel is in the works!
